Zen Miniature Garden

Zen Garden

by Barbara Lee on March 17, 2013

A meditation garden would be a wonderful addition to any landscape.  We could all use a calming retreat to reflect and renew our spirits.  If I had the space and the funds I would build such a place.  But that is where the art of Miniature Gardening steps in and allows us to create a fantasy garden even if it is small. Visualize yourself walking across the foot bridge, gazing down at the colorful koi, and listening for the wind brushing across the trees.  Bring some serenity to your patio by following these easy steps:

Decide where to place your plants and pond.

Once arranged, snuggle your plants into the soil.

Add the pond and bridge.

Place your lattice

Add the pebbles

Some blue and white accessories give my garden added Asian charm. I even planted some tiny succulent cuttings in the pots.

Fill the pond with water and add Koi.

I wish this was life sized, but that’s the fun of miniature gardens, they allow you to dream. Enter through your imagination.

Don’t you want to feed the Koi? Brew yourself a pot of green tea, enter this calming garden, and just breathe.

You will need:

A mostly sunny location

17 inch bowl type terracotta pot

Chinese Juniper (in bonsai form)

Hinoki Cypress in fernspray gold

Sedum in limegreen

Potting soil

bridge and lattice, painted red

pond and koi

blue and white garden stool and pots

Tiny succulent cuttings for the pots

Small black or grey pebbles

Accessories from www.twogreenthumbs.com

This garden looks so peaceful! I am going to give it a try and see how mine comes out.
